The best way to predict the future is to invent it

These are my notes of Alan Kay’s Presentation in IT25・50 Symposium.

These are some of the topics;

– The demo and Douglas Engelbart’s ideas
He made the mother of demo, but his all ideas are not put into practice.
And “the demo” has a distraction from the more unique and important big ideas.
His whole ideas are shown in the paper “Augmenting Human Intellect: A Conceptual Framework”
Link below.

-Everything is a system.
Something is not a thing but is also a dynamic system.
Connected systems generally don’t have centers, but do have points of view.

-Humans and tools
When a person use a tool, he receive information from the tool. The information changes his thought, and he changes his act. This is a feedback loop.
We need education, method, and language because using tools doesn’t teach consequences well enough.
Using an iPhone is casual, but the effect is not casual. It’s enormous.
We need to reflect Einstein’s words “we cannot solve our problems with the same levels of thinking that we used to create it.”
